 Alicante, the first city to suspend Holy Week processions |

Alicante has become the first city to suspend the processions and all festive events of Holy Week, when the 28 brotherhoods decided unanimously this Thursday with the aim of preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
The Greater Board of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods of Alicante, whose president is Alfredo Llopis Verdú, met this afternoon in an assembly and has decreed the suspension of the steps and all previous celebrations, so there will be no Holy Week in the city until 2021.
In this way, 60 steps are canceled with the participation of around 2,400 costaleros, in processions in which up to 10,000 people participate, including the aforementioned costaleros, musicians, Nazarenes and different authorities of the brotherhoods, according to data provided to Efe by a spokesperson for the Greater Board of Brotherhoods.
The decision has been made " unanimously" when there are just over two weeks left for the celebration of the processions.
